Asian Handicap Betting Guide

Asian Handicap Betting as the name suggests, originates in Asia, where the betting method was known commonly known as ‘hang cheng betting.’ The term 'Asian Handicap' was first coined by Joe Saumarez in the late 1990s and soon caught on to explain this specific type of betting.

Asian Handicap Betting is thought to have been invented in Indonesia before spreading around Asia and the wider world more latterly.

The term ‘Asian Handicap’ is now firmly established in European and US betting markets, although much more popular across the Far East where it is the mainstay of how punters bet. Now the vast majority of UK bookmakers will offer Asian Handicap betting, although it's still somewhat of a niche betting market compared to European and US betting.
