Betting Tips and Previews: Cricket

Ashton Agar was the star man for Australia in the First Ashes Test against England.

He was their tormenter in the first test, but England should kick on and make sure Ashton Agar can't do as much damage second time around.

The Ashes 2013: Second Test

Thursday 18th July: 10:30am

England supporters were allowed to breathe a brief sigh of relief after the madness of Sunday, where victory was clinched by a paltry 14 runs. It wasn't quite the battering people were hoping for, but it will go a long way to settling the nerves for the rest of the series.

England are still 1/5 with Bet365 to reclaim the urn for the third series in a row. Australia remain heavy outsiders to snatch an unlikely series victory at 8/1 with SkyBet, while a drawn series (meaning England will get to keep the tiny little trophy) is also at 8/1 with Coral.

On to the second test...

England Expects

We have a feeling that England may be able to assert their dominance a little more in this test. After the nerves of Nottingham nearly culminated in a nightmare start to the series, the action at Lord's should be a little more of what we expected at the start of the action.

England to win is evens with Coral, which is the best odds you will find at the moment. If conditions are right, the England innings could score big as well. 500 or more runs (combined innings, obviously) is 13/8 with Betfair, and looks very tidy.

Bowl 'em over

James Anderson had a blinding first test and finished up as man of the match quite rightly. We fancy him to be the top England bowler again, and that is a very handsomely priced 2/1 with Stan James.

For optimism's sake, we reckon the method of first dismissal might be a nice clean bowl. Stan James are offering 6/1 on that, and judging by the way Anderson's been bowling, it might be worth the risk.

Running for cover

He's had a rough year, what with the texting scandal and all, but Kevin Pietersen has to come good at some point. He's due a massive innings, and this second test could be the touchpaper to start him off on a memorable Ashes. He's 4/1 with Paddy Power to be England's top batsman for this test.

And if you fancy a big double on this, KP is 10/1 with Ladbrokes to be the man of the match. If he plays like we know he's capable of, you could be in for a very nice windfall after the end of this test.
