With the Ashes series set to begin in earnest on the 8th July in Cardiff, now is the perfect time to take a look at the spread betting market for the biggest series of them all.

Take advantage of Spreadex's HUGE £100 range of free bets when you sign up!

The premise to this style of betting is actually a lot simpler than it may seem. Spreadex have put together a great online magazine to explain the series and the choices of spread betting available. The picture below gives a great example of how you can stake your money during the series.

Cricket is unique in its variety of opportunities for the spread better, with a whole host of markets available. These include, but not limited to, runs, wickets, margin of defeats, player performances.

The Ashes is the most betted upon series in cricket, and 2015 looks set to be no different, with millions expected to be staked over the 5 Test matches this summer.

One of the most popular markets in the total runs in the entire series, and as we can see, despite the Ashes changing hand regularly since 2001, Australia have a clear edge in the total runs department.

It is key with all betting, to take a good look at the historical statistics, as above. But of course, that is what has gone before, a good indicator is also the stats of the players involved this time around.

The ‘player performance’ market takes into account all facets of the game, with players scoring points for wickets, runs and catches. For England, the man to watch is Yorkshiremen Joe Root.

His player performance is usually in the 110 range, which places him easily above average, and also the leader of England team. Good value may be had in the ‘ton up’ market, this is a bet on the number of runs scored above 100 in each innings. Root’s is set at 49-55.

For the visitors, it is Mitchell Johnson who leads the way with player performance. His average of 128-138, makes his the most dominant Aussie, as well as putting him way out in front of any of the English players. Coupled alongside, his penchant for terrorising English batsmen, and the smart money may just be on him to replicate his performance from 2013/4.

Wherever your money is going during this series, it’s sure to be a cracker. A resurgent, attacking England could just upset the formbooks and give the ageing Aussie side a scare this summer.
