The summer racing extravaganza moves onto the Sussex Downs next week as Goodwood hosts The Qatar Goodwood Festival from Tuesday July 26th to Saturday 30th July where the meeting climaxes with the hugely competitive Goodwood Stewards Cup.
We have picked out five of the best bets of the meeting, one from each day to form an accumulator bet! Whether you take the Lucky 31 or Canadian Bet option, we will guide you to the best Goodwood odds and offers from our partner firms: Bet365, William Hill, Betfred, Bet Victor and Boylesports.
Day 1 Tuesday 26th July
The Nicholson Gin Handicap, 1610 Goodwood: CELCIUS
This 5 furlong sprint handicap looks mighty competitive, although one that stands out is Celsius, trained by Tom Glover, who is seeking a hat trick after wins at Ascot and Newmarket over 5 furlongs.
The horse also has a course and distance victory from 2019. Needs to improve again but looks to be at a winnable mark still. 7/1 best with William Hill.
Day 2 Wednesday 27th July
The Coral Beaten By A Length Handicap, 1350 Goodwood: MANDOBI
The William Haggas team is having an extraordinary season and they relish these kinds of handicaps. Their entry Mandobi looks to be on the up and could figure here. Despite being eight lengths down on current race favourite Secret State last time out at Ascot, Mandobi put in two creditable efforts in listed events at Thirsk and Ripon.
Still a bit to find however, but if he were to replicate the Thirsk form, he would be in with a great shout here. Odds wise he is best backed with Betfred at 12/1.
Day 3 Thursday 28th July
The Gordon Stakes, 1500 Goodwood: WEST WIND BLOWS
This Simon & Ed Crisford trained and bred by Godolphin entry really impressed recently at Hamilton in a listed event where he won very easily with plenty in hand, suggesting that there is a lot more to come from this very unexposed horse.
He also holds entries for the Great Voltigeur, The St Leger and The Arc so this could be a useful stepping-stone to greater things. Potentially holds particularly substantial value at odds of 15/2 with Bet365.
Day 4 Friday 29th July
The King George Qatar Stakes, 1535 Goodwood: RAASEL
This Michael Appleby trained 5-year-old has proved to be a consistent gritty performer over the 5-furlong distance this season. He has picked up three hard fought wins recently including a course and distance victory back in April where he narrowly beat the useful performer Clarendon House.
He’s the sort that never knows when he’s beaten in these types of contests and therefore looks reasonable value at 5/1 with William Hill and Bet Victor.
Day 5 Saturday 30th July
The Coral Stewards Cup, 1520 Goodwood
The Stewards Cup is without doubt one of the most competitive handicaps of the entire flat season and this year’s renewal is no exception. Additionally, with six ante post joint favourites all hovering around 12/1, the race also represents a great betting opportunity.
The sort of horse that performs well in this race is not one that has necessarily been grabbing the headlines, as is the case with a lot of these huge field handicaps.
One horse who has been hitting the crossbar all season is the Julie Camacho entry Makanah. In each of his five starts this season, Makanah has been within two lengths of the winner, including two very narrow defeats at York and Musselburgh.
He is clearly enthusiastic and should be there or thereabouts at the business end for a decent price. Trainer is in reasonable form with a 21% strike rate in the last 14 days. Looks a fantastic ante post each way opportunity at 33/1 with Bet365.
