Best Bets Yankee For Yorkshire Ebor Festival

Sadly, York Racecourse misses out on welcoming the crowds to their four day Yorkshire Ebor Festival starting on Wednesday 19th August and running through to Saturday 22nd August.

With the UK government putting on the brakes to further easing of the national response to Covid-19, the entire meeting will be held behind closed doors. However, this takes nothing away from an action packed four days of top quality flat racing kicking off with the prestigious Juddmonte International Stakes on Wednesday and culminating with the highly valuable Sky Bet Ebor Handicap on the Saturday.

We’ve selected four of the week’s best bets to make up a Yankee accumulator bet including where to obtain the best odds from our established partner firms. We’ve gone for three of the biggest stars of the week who look certain to round up a useful treble and then we have a decently rated outsider in Saturday’s Ebor to give the bet some worthy financial reward.

First off, we look at the Juddmonte and we’ve selected the most improved star of the season to get our Yankee bet off to a positive start!

THE JUDDMONTE INTERNATIONAL STAKES (British Champions Series), 1515 York, Wednesday 19th August

GHAIYYATH

This Godolphin owned powerhouse that is Ghaiyyath has come on leaps and bounds this season having won The Coronation Cup with relative ease before following up with a 2 ½ length defeat of a slightly green Enable on her first run of the season at Sandown in the Coral Eclipse.

Connections are extremely confident of landing a Group One hat trick with victory in the Juddmonte: trainer Charlie Appleby believes his stable star is the best middle distance stayer he’s produced, classier even than his 2018 Derby winner Masar. Talking recently to Racing TV, he said:

““Ghaiyyath is more of a finished article now. His post-race condition is a lot stronger this year than it has been in the past. There’s no doubt we’re talking about a different animal than we were dealing with over his two, three and four-year-old career.”

Price wise, the 5 year old is 11/8 best with Ladbrokes and Coral.

OTHERS

Magical (4/1 William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral) has been solid over in Ireland, winning two Grade Ones for trainer Aiden O’Brien but faces a much stiffer task here and could be switched to the Yorkshire Darley Oaks on Thursday instead.

Lord North (9/2 William Hill, Paddy Power, Betfair) has reasonable claims based on his excellent Prince Of Wales Stakes victory at Royal Ascot.

SELECTION: GHAIYYATH

THE YORKSHIRE DARLEY OAKS (British Champions Series), 1515 York, Thursday 20th August

LOVE

Having obliterated every rival in sight so far this season, it is of no surprise to find the Aiden O'Brien superstar filly Love a very short price for this renewal of the Yorkshire Darley Oaks on the Thursday.

4/9 best at William Hill, she should oblige easily to keep this Yankee going into the third leg. Magical makes up a handy forecast bet if she foregoes her appointment with the Juddmonte.

SELECTION: LOVE

THE COOLMORE NUNTHORPE STAKES, 1515 York, Friday 21st August

The speedy Battaash (1/2 Bet 365, William Hill, Unibet, Betfred) has been a great servant to trainer Charlie Hills down the years and the 6 year old has continued in fine fettle this season, notching up two wins at the Royal Ascot and Goodwood Festival meetings, winning both with ease.

He has past success with course and distance wins at York and is very hard to oppose in this renewal of the Nunthorpe on the third day. Could easily be the lucrative third winner on this intriguing treble of flat racing's leading superstars.

Art Power (3/1 Bet 365, Betfair, Paddy Power, Unibet) trained by Tim Easterby is a viable danger based on his recent form and previous C&D wins at York.

SELECTION: BATTAASH

THE SKY BET EBOR HANDICAP, 1540 York, Saturday 22nd August

Fujaira Prince (10/1 Betfair) has been the ante-post favourite for this race since his ability to handle this kind of trip was proved through his win in the Cooper House Handicap at Royal Ascot.

However, outstanding value is more tangible through the Godolphin trained entry, Ghostwatch, who has been knocking on the door a couple of times this season over the distance having been runner up in a decent Newmarket handicap and placed in a listed event in Deauville.

He also has course and distance credibility having won at this meeting in 2018. Great value at 16/1 with Betfair, Paddy Power and Unibet.

SELECTION: GHOSTWATCH

RECAP

I suggest heading to Betfair for this Yankee bet to take advantage of the 16/1 on offer for Ghostwatch (and 5 places paid for single each way bets).
