One of the most competitive large field handicaps of the year takes place on the Knavesmire this weekend as York stages the 1 mile 6 furling Ebor Handicap.  The highly regarded Hipop De Loire leads the market but there is plenty in with a shout.

We check out best Ebor bets and top odds from our partner firms, Bet365, William Hill, Betfred, Bet Victor and Boylesports.

Each Way Offers

Bet365 and Boylesports are currently offering six places for antepost each way bets rather than the standard four places.

The Big Players

Hipop De Loire

This Willie Mullins trained eight year old was very unlucky in running in last year’s renewal, being unable to obtain a clear run coming down the straight.

He stayed on impressively despite the difficulties and is a worthy favourite for this year based on that evidence. Hipop De Loire comes into this with match fitness after a maiden hurdle win at Galway at the end of last month, although others are preferred.

3/1 best Betfred and Boylesports.

Ethical Diamond

Another Willie Mullins entry and this five year old comes into this on the back of an impressive Royal Ascot victory, winning the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes over fast ground and persevering through some congestion coming round the final bend.

It’s a major test to see if he can win off a rating of 104 however. The booking of jockey William Buick is a bonus. 6/1 best with Bet365 and Betfred.

French Master

This Gosden trained top weight was outclassed in the Goodwood Cup, however, he comes into this with two handicap wins over 1m 6 furlong including the Copper Stakes Handicap at Royal Ascot.

The weight is certainly a significant burden but he will be a danger if he can reproduce his excellent handicap form from this season. 15/2 best with Bet365 paying 6 places.

London City

The Aiden O’Brien entry has showed some ability in handicap and group company recently and despite a course and distance win going back to June last year, there is little to suggest that the three year old will figure here.

However, the horse has been backed from 14s into 8s in recent days. Best odds now available at 12/1 with Betfred paying 5 places.

Shadow Dance

This Roger Varian trained five year old comes into this based on an excellent course win last year, a decent handicap win which demonstrated versatility and battling qualities.

His only run of the season thus far was in the Goodwood Challenge Cup where he was a little unlucky in running to finish 9th. He will come on for that run and looks good each way value at 12/1 with Bet Victor.

Best Outsider Bets

Yashin is an interesting character who has some eye-catching performances in graded company, not least in his latest run where he looked good coming home in front 2 furlongs out in a 1 mile 6 furlong contest. This trip will suit better but his performances are inconsistent. Surely worth some each way pennies with Bet365 at 40/1 paying 6 places.

Oneforthegutter brings good form after his recent handicap win at Newmarket and despite being under the grip of the handicapper, he represents excellent each way value at 28/1 with Bet365 paying 6 places.

RECAP

A wide open contest as ever. The two Willie Mullins trained favourites stand up well although don’t represent great value. French Master has arguably the best form in the race but the top weight burden is a concern whereas London City does not have much form to write home about despite any soundbites from the O’Brien yard. Shadow Dance looks to be the best value all round at 12/1 and is our choice to land the Ebor.

SELECTION: Shadow Dance 12/1 each with Bet Victor.
