With just one week remaining to the start of Cheltenham Festival 2024, we have identified six horses priced at 25/1 or above who might find themselves running into a place if they can run at or near their best.
Good long shot Cheltenham bets can be notoriously difficult to pinpoint, however, the competitive nature of The Cheltenham festival often means that quality form horses often carry big odds, especially in the big field handicaps.

Master Chewy, The Arkle, Tuesday 12th March
The big 2 mile novice championship is our first long shot bet on Day One of Cheltenham Festival 2024. This was also tipped up by race trainer Dan Skelton and it is easy to see why.
Master Chewy trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies was a game winner of the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices' Chase at Kempton last December. He was badly hampered in his follow up race due to a faller at the first, so that run can be excused.
However, the rest of his season has been very consistent, and this race has question marks surrounding the shorter priced horses. Wouldn’t need to improve dramatically to run into a place here at best odds 33/1 NRNB with Bet365.
Rapper, The Ultima Handicap Chase, Tuesday 12th March
This Henry Daly trained ten year old makes our shortlist based on the manner in which he stayed on in a recent valuable handicap at Ascot, finishing second behind the highly regarded Threeunderthrufive.
He also has a course and distance win going back to January last year. If he can run at or near to this level, he has a great chance of making the frame in The Ultima on Day One.
Best odds 33/1 with Bet365 with NRNB and paying five places for each way bets.
Lord Snootie, The Pertemps, Thursday 14th March
This former Irish point winner trained by Christian Williams came to my attention when running well in a Punchestown handicap last April. He is being developed slowly and showed enormous potential in the Pertemps qualifier at Haydock, just failing to catch the eventual winner in the dying strides.
If the going comes up heavy for the Pertemps in the Festival, Lord Snootie looks the type to run on for a late place at 25/1 with Bet365 NRNB and paying five places.
Triple Trade, The Plate, Thursday 14th March
This Joe Tizzard trained eight year old ran into a rich vein of form last autumn with two excellent runs over course and distance at Cheltenham in decent handicaps.
He also won a valuable handicap at Ascot where he was tested over an extended distance of 2 miles 3 furlongs. The Plate looks a decent option for him. Best odds 33/1 William Hill and Betfred NRNB and paying 5 places.
Secret Investor, The Open Hunters, Friday 15th March
The Open Hunters Chase held on the final day of the Festival has thrown up some big priced winners down the years. Paul Nicholls has a great record in this race, and we have pinpointed one of his veteran chasers, Secret Investor to run into a place at decent odds.
He ran out a game winner in a hunter’s chase at Fakenham last month and that should have him primed for this.
Best odds of 25/1 with Bet365 and William Hill NRNB.
The Real Whacker, The Gold Cup, Friday 15th March
Pulled off one of the biggest shocks of last season by staying on with incredible tenacity to beat Gerri Colombe for the Brown Advisory Chase at last year’s Festival.
The Patrick Neville trained eight-year-old has taken a while to get going this season after mixed performances in the Paddy Power Gold Cup and King George VI chases.
However, he showed signs of being back to his best with a good second behind Capodanno in the Cotswold Chase over course and distance back in January. Could be there or thereabouts at excellent odds of 40/1 with Bet365 NRNB.
