Bombproof Bankers For Cheltenham Festival 2021

The Irish have such a vice like grip on the Grade One races at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. The dominance is significant to the point that this article which highlights 4 highly regarded banker bets of The 2021 Cheltenham Festival contains no British trained horses at all.

Shishkin, Paisley Park and Bravemansgame all have outstanding chances in their own right but face such stiff opposition that the label of Cheltenham banker simply cannot be applied.

So we have picked out the five best bankers of the meeting that would make a solid Canadian bet accumulator. The prices at the time of writing are not as short as witnessed in previous Festival banker bets but its still very hard to see past these picks: they are indeed near bombproof!

MONKFISH: The Brown Advisory Novices Chase, Wednesday 17th March

Last year’s brave Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle winner has gone from strength to strength this season in his rise up the ranks of the mid distance novice chasing division.

Talk is already aplenty at Willie MullinsCounty Carlow yard of a future Gold Cup star such is the reaction of how well this horse has made the transition to fences.

In the Flogas Chase at the Dublin Festival last time out he was simply sensational , jumping for fun and galloping his rivals into submission. Proper banker material for the Brown Advisory Novices Chase on Day 2 at 8/11 NRNB with bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair, Betfred.

CHACUN POUR SOI: The Queen Mother Champion Chase, Wednesday 17th March

The 2 mile senior chase division has seen a significant decline in fortunes amongst the British entries as Defi Du Seuill’s form has sadly plummeted in the last year resulting in Philip Hobbs’ resting his star until next season.

Altior’s age has now caught up with him and looks booked for places, whilst Politologue was completely exposed by the exciting First Flow last time out at Ascot. Therefore, this leaves the enigmatic Chacun Pour Soi trained by Willie Mullins with a clear run to prove his worth at the very top level in this year’s Champion Chase.

He was mesmerising in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Dublin Chase, scoring a career best under Paul Townend and also demonstrating that he has a lot of gears which will give him the edge up The Cheltenham Hill. The second leg of our Bombproof Bankers goes for 10/11 best with William Hill although this is a full ante post rules bet.

ENVOI ALLEN: THE MARSH NOVICES CHASE, Thursday 18th March

Very much the chief banker of last year’s Festival and again fits the bill for this year’s Marsh Novices Chase (4/5 NRNB bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair).

His finishing speed in the Ballymore at last season’s Festival was significant especially as he was a little off the pace coming round the last bend.

He has taken well to fences this term albeit in minor company and will have the confidence to get the beating of Shan Blue and Chantry House.

Due to the ongoing photo controversy at Gordon Elliott's yard, the horse has now transferred to the stables of Henry De Bromhead.

ZANAHIYR: THE TRIUMPH HURDLE, Friday 19th March

Really impressed at the Punchestown meeting in a Grade 2 juvenile hurdle event where he took the race by the scruff of the neck and never looked like coming off the bridle at any time.

As with most horses in the juvenile division it's difficult to see how good this Aga Khan bred 4 year old is going to be.

However, I think he will get the better of the recently impressing Tritonic at decent odds in The Triumph Hurdle on the final day of the meeting at 11/4 (Betfred NRNB).

**HORSE STILL TRAINED AT GORDON ELLIOTT'S STABLE AT THE TIME OF WRITING**

ELIMAY: THE MARES CHASE, Friday 19th March

This JP McManus owned and trained by Willie Mullins entry for the new race of The Cheltenham Festival, The Mares Chase looks to be JP’s biggest chance of the week of getting into the winner’s enclosure.

Really impressed with two runs this season, beating the respectable Shattered Love most recently in a listed mares chase at Naas last time out. Will take all the beating at 2/1 best with bet365, Betfair and Betfred with NRNB.
