A fortnight to go!!! Cheltenham Festival 2022 is set, as always, to be a bonanza of fantastic betting opportunities and it’s not always the races and the horses that take centre stage.

Very much a forgone conclusion and almost incomprehensible that last year’s mauling by the Irish will be avenged by the British trainers this year. The current odds reflect this:

The Irish absolutely dominate here unsurprisingly with representatives from the emerald isle taking up four places in the betting top 5. Paul Townend leads this market at 11/10 (William Hill) although this is attributed to a number of decent opportunities riding Willie Mullins horses in the listed events.
Far better value is to be found on Davy Russell (5/1 William Hill) who is first choice jockey for a very formidable Gordon Elliott team who have a host of excellent chances in the listed and handicap events.

Biggest Race Winning Distance
Another intriguing market is the Biggest Race Winning Distance bet option.
20 lengths + 7/4 (William Hill)
15 – 19.5 lengths 2/1 (William Hill)
10-14.5 lengths 5/1 (William Hill)
Under 10 lengths 9/2 (William Hill)
Considering the incredibly competitive nature of the Cheltenham Festival races, it’s hard to imagine any horse could win by anything more than 15 lengths but it does happen.
However, it is difficult to pinpoint where an absolute decimation might occur. The Ryanair Chase looks booked for Allaho whilst Honeysuckle could easily improve on her 7 length win over Sharjah in last year’s Champion Hurdle. The 10-14.5 lengths at 5/1 may well be a good value bet.
Biggest Winning SP
The Cheltenham Festival is renowned for producing shock results and whilst another win in the vein of Norton’s Coin winning the Gold Cup at odds of 100/1 is a once in a lifetime event, a 33/1 or 40/1 shot winner is never out of the question. The 5/4 for this outcome looks solid.

Number of Winning SP Favourites
Bombproof bankers look a little short on the ground for this year’s Cheltenham Festival. Honeysuckle and Allaho look solid but there are plenty of doubts over other current market leaders.
The Arkle, Triumph Hurdle, Ballymore, Supreme Novices and to some extent The Champion Chase look like fairly open affairs. Galopin De Champs and Bob Olinger could have been added to the bombproof list but now look set to take each other on in a mouth-watering Turners Chase clash on St Patrick’s Thursday.
Could be a lean year for favourites making the 6 or fewer winners a big tempter.

Which Race Will Have The Biggest Winning Distance?
The Cross Country Chase has produced some emphatic winners down the years: Easysland and of course Tiger Roll certainly spring to mind. 6/1 looks good value or 10/1 for the Champion Hurdle to produce a big win for Honeysuckle.
The novice chase events often produce decisive winners, but the most viable bet would head nearer to the more attritional staying chases such as the National Hunt or Cross Country Chase.
