Capital One Cup Final: Man City vs Sunderland

Over the past few seasons the Capital One Cup has become what the FA Cup used to be like for football, the piece of silverwear that any bog standard club could get their mitts on without having to also be holding a sizeable arabic wallet. Everyone loves a cup final, especially if you like a bet… Anything can happen so the bookies will be all over the place.

Sunderland are a bit of a bogey team of City as well… Although I wouldn’t hang my hat on that.

Can Sunderland be a Spanner in the City Machine?

Sunderland can be found at a rather generous 10/1 with Betvictor, which could be a bit of a shout if you fancy a cup final upset with City having a bad day at the office. If City have Aguero back from injury however, it’s hard to see a game in which he won’t be able to unlock the Black Cats defence, they are by far the favourites at 3/10 with Skybet.

Gus Poyet will have the Sunderland team ready and waiting, they will be set up to hit hard on the counter attack, but I can’t see them holding the draw much past half time. Both teams goalless at half time is at 3/1 with William Hill, after that I can see the floodgates opening and City turning up the gas. A final score of 3-1 to City is 23/2 with Unibet.

Key man Aguero will be the difference

Everything rests on the 25 year old Argentine’s shoulders. Whilst city do undoubtedly have a superb team, with Yaya Toure, Nasri and Silva all playing well - they look a different side with Aguero in the team. He brings the best out of those around him and seems to be the best partner for Alvaro ‘The Beast’ Negredo. He’s a decent 3/1 to grab the first goal on Sunday with Coral.

In red and white, resurgent ex-city man Adam Johnson is a very generous 6/1 to score anytime in the final with Ladbrokes. With City inevitably bombing forward faster than Frank Lampard in the queue for an all you can eat buffet, Johnson will be able to capitalise on some of the space left behind and seems likely to sniff out a couple of chances.

Cards’n’Corners aplenty

I barely have to emphasise how good these odds are so I won’t. Lee Cattermole, rumoured to have killed a man for almost bumping into him once, is 10/1 to get booked first. Definitely worth a punt.

City will be firing shots aplenty on what could end up being a Sunday Siege, corners are likely to be flying into the Sunderland box like there’s no tomorrow. With Stan James you can get odds of 15/8 on over 10 corners occurring during the game.
