To coincide with the start of the Jumps season, we’ve selected our 10 to follow! One is already a Cheltenham Festival winner, one returning from injury but with plenty of exciting ability and the rest are a mixture of potential talent and good racing weights.

We’ve also split our choices across the Irish Sea so as to maximise our Cheltenham Festival aspirations! Included also are some of the races which our ten have best ante post odds advertised for.

VANILLIER

This hugely impressive Albert Bartlett Novices winner at The Cheltenham Festival is expected to make an appearance in the late October Down Royal meeting where he will make an eagerly anticipated debut over fences. Trainer Gavin Cromwell has high hopes for him as he steps up in trip.

Current ante post odds:
The National Hunt Chase 14/1 (bet365, Bet Victor, Betfred, Boylesports)
The Stayers Hurdle 33/1 (Bet Victor)
The Festival Novices Chase 16/1 (bet365)

FERNY HOLLOW

Certainly made the headlines when winning the 2020 Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper over hot favourite Appreciate It., who of course went on to win The Supreme Novices the following year.

Ferny Hollow kickstarted last season in splendid fashion beating Bob Ollinger in his first start but succumbed to injury which ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Very exciting prospect and could turn out to be the ace up the sleeve for Willie Mullins in the Champion Hurdle markets.

Current ante post odds:
The Champion Hurdle 10/1 (bet365, Bet Victor, Betfred)
The Arkle 10/1 (bet365, Betfred)
Festival Novices Chase 20/1 (bet365)
Marsh Novices Chase 16/1 (William Hill)

NEXT DESTINATION

This mudlark from the Paul Nicholls yard did well last season, winning two Grade 2 races over fences before running a blinder in the National Hunt Chase at The Cheltenham Festival.

Next Destination.jpg
Could be a surprise package in the Grade One Betfair Chase in November where he holds an entry, as stable mate Clan Des Obeaux is set to bypass this in his bid for third King George at Kempton.

Current ante post odds:
The Betfair Chase 7/1 (William Hill, Bet Victor)

SPORTING JOHN

Remembered chiefly last season for his impressive win in the Scilly Isles Novices Chase but failed to sparkle at the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree, let down by poor jumping. Worth watching seasonal reappearance for signs of improvement as this horse has a lot of ability.

Current ante post odds:
The Cheltenham Gold Cup 100/1 (bet365)

FIRESTEP

Trained by Nicky Henderson and held in high regard at Seven Barrows. Has won two bumpers already and is reportedly a favourite ride of Nico De Boinville.

Current ante post odds:
Ballymore Novices Hurdle 33/1 (bet365, William Hill, Boylesports)
Supreme Novices Hurdle 50/1 (bet365)

DYSART DYNAMO

An exciting prospect for novice hurdle events. This Willie Mullins trained 5-year-old has easily won two bumpers at Clonmel and Punchestown last spring.

The Punchestown win was exceptionally impressive as he was pulling hard in a slow race and still obliged by some distance.

Current ante post odds:
Supreme Novices Hurdle: 16/1 (bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred, Boylesports)
Champion Bumper 20/1 (Bet Victor, Betfred)

TAMAROC DU MARTHEN

This emerging talent from the Paul Nicholls stables has been raced quietly. Performed well over fences last season winning twice including a Grade 2 2m 4f chase at Kempton. Will probably miss the winter surfaces for a spring return.

Current ante post odds:
Ryanair Chase: 80/1 (bet365)

LIEUTENANT ROCCO

Novice chaser now with Nick Mitchell after a spell with Colin Tizzard. Has made good progress as a novice chaser and his current mark of 147 will put him in good stead for a decent event in testing ground.

Current ante post odds:
The Ladbrokes Trophy: 25/1 (bet365)

BENEVOLENTDICTATOR

For this looking for a mudlark in a stamina sapping handicap, look no further than this Gary Moore trained 7-year-old. Not entered as yet but may end up at The Coral Welsh National on an attractive mark of 122.

FAROUK D’ALENE

Very exciting prospect from the Gordon Elliott yard.

Won all his races last season bar one, including a defeat of Albert Bartlett Novices winner Vanillier at Limerick last Christmas. Looks set to go down the novice chasing route.

Current ante post odds:
The Festival Novices Chase: 25/1 (William Hill, Bet Victor)
The National Hunt Chase 20/1 (bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Boylesports)
