Previously sponsored by Ladbrokes and classically known as the The Hennessy Gold Cup, the big race this Saturday is The Coral Gold Cup. Nineteen runners go to post for this challenging stayers chase handicap.

It has thrown up a number of Gold Cup and Grand National winners down the years, including the likes of Denman, Many Clouds, Bob’s Worth and Native River. We check out the best odds and tips from our partner firms Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.

Corach Rambler

This Lucinda Russell trained 8-year-old caught the attention when winning the Ultima Handicap Chase at The Cheltenham Festival last season. He looked in trouble in that race early on but stayed on magnificently up the hill and won with something in hand, hence, he is a worthy market leader for this contest.

Well beaten in his seasonal reappearance and he will not be carrying a featherweight this time. Might find a few others outpacing him early on but should be staying on for a place. Best priced 6/1 with William Hill.

Remastered

Was very much in contention in last year’s renewal when this David Pipe trained 9-year-old fell at the fourth from home. His seasonal reappearance at Aintree in a handicap hurdle earlier this month was impressive, staying on and winning comfortably.

This is of course much tougher, but he will be fit and his performance last season in the same race is encouraging. Sure to be involved at the business end if he can get round this time. 6/1 with Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.

Threeunderthrufive

The very in form Paul Nicholls stable originally had dual King George winner Clan Des Obeaux lined up for this but the 11-year-old is now being primed for another King George appearance.

Meanwhile the team have entered Threeunderthrufive who ran creditably in the West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby recently. However, he has the statistical credentials to win this kind of race after a highly successful season novice chasing, where he won four times on the bounce. Very unexposed at 8/1 with William Hill.

Le Milos

Trained by Dan Skelton, Le Milos ran out a comfortable winner at Bangor recently in a decent handicap after being transferred from the Tim Vaughan stable in the summer. Has run well in good handicaps in the last season year and the Skeltons may well get even more out of this 8-year-old in this his toughest test yet.

The Skelton horses are running well at the moment and this horse seems to have transformed under their guidance. Our pick for the race at best odds of 8/1 with Bet365 and William Hill.

Fiddlerontheroof

Was unlucky to be touched off by eventual winner Cloudy Glen in last season’s renewal. He ran a very creditable fifth behind Noble Yeats in the Aintree Grand National and is everybody’s idea of a consistent and dogged stayer.

However, he is hardly unexposed and clearly weighted to his best (up 5ibs from his racing weight in last year’s contest) but is definitely one of each way bets of the race at 8/1 best with Bet365William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.

Best Outsider Bets

Annsam is a developing chaser and is consistent enough to be respected at 16/1 (William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports) whilst Lord Accord ran a brilliant race behind Frodon in the Badger Beers Handicap Chase at Wincanton recently after winning at Cheltenham impressively in October.

Frodon went on to run a creditable third in last week’s Betfair Chase, so the form is rock solid for Lord Accord and is without doubt great each way value at 16/1 with Bet365. Looks to be improving as well as not being treated too harshly by the handicapper.

Verdict

A very wide-open contest with lots of question marks over the market leaders. Therefore, the quest for value comes into consideration and the improving qualities of Lord Accord at 16/1 (Bet365) and the reliability of the Skeltons in these big handicaps steers our main choice for Le Milos at 8/1 (Bet365, William Hill).
