Best Bets For Royal Ascot 2019

Royal Ascot, the pinnacle of the Flat Season kicks off next Tuesday heralding the start of five days of tantalising racing, featuring some of the most competitive Grade One races in the world.

It’s also a significant entry for the social calendar as the champagne flows, the most pioneering frocks are on display and necks are seriously strained to get a glimpse of the Royal visitors. However, our prime concern is of course the frenetic betting activity and with the exception of The Cheltenham Festival, it is the biggest betting sporting event of the year.

We have selected, therefore, four best bets for the week representing each day. Our first selection focuses on one of the most legendary Royal Ascot trainers, and we’re not talking about Aiden O’Brien!

MUSTASHRY, QUEEN OF ANNE STAKES, 1430 Ascot, Tuesday 18th June

Michael Stoute loves the Royal Meeting and his record there is impressive. The Newmarket based handler ranks as the most successful trainer of all time at the Royal meeting and he brings another formidable team to this year’s renewal.

He looks to have a livewire chance in the opener, The Queen Of Anne Stakes, where he saddles the Hamdan Al Maktoum owned Mushtashry who recently obliged in the Lockinge Group One stakes at Newbury. Seeing off the plucky Laurens by a couple of lengths he is sure to improve and the Ascot mile should suit.

Betting wise, ante post rules still apply at this stage and 6/1 is available with Betfair and Paddy Power.

TOO DARN HOT, ST JAMES PALACE STAKES, 1625 Ascot, Tuesday 18th June

Third time lucky? The Gosden trained superstar 2 year old of last season has, by his expected standards, failed to sparkle this season thus far. Runner up in both of his starts, the latest defeat in the Irish 2000 Guineas was perhaps an improvement and I think he can turn the tables on the much improved Phoenix Of Spain who beat him on that day.

Too Darn Hot’s ability is simply too darn hot to ignore. He hasn’t done anything particularly wrong this season and considering his stunted start to the season, with minor injuries, we can expect something like the real thing this time around. 5/2 could be a bargain with Unibet, Betfred and Betfair. New customers at Betfred can take advantage of this Royal Ascot offer!

CRYSTAL OCEAN, THE PRINCE OF WALES STAKES, WEDNESDAY 19TH JUNE

Michael Stoute also brings the consistent Crystal Ocean into the mix for The Prince Of Wales Stakes on Day 2. It’s almost bewildering that this Rothschild owned 6 year old has yet to land a Group One event, having been the bridesmaid on numerous occasions including The St Leger and King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Word from the trainer is that Crystal Ocean is in good stead and the recent acquisition of Frankie Dettori to partner him is an obvious plus. 9/2 is the going rate, currently available with William Hill, Betfair and Bet Victor.

CITY LIGHT, THE DIAMOND JUBILEE STAKES, SATURDAY 22ND JUNE

The French are strongly represented in this 6 furlong championship event with Inns Of Court and City Light both prominent in the betting. However, I quite like the look of the latter mentioned, City Light who will be hoping to go one better after finishing as runner-up in last year’s event.

He’s had the one run so far this season, finishing second to Inns Of Court: the form has worked out well as Inns Of Court went on to win again in a much more prestigious listed event.

Solid each way at 8/1 with William Hill, Betfair, Paddy Power.
