The five-day Royal meeting at Ascot takes place from next Tuesday 14th June until Saturday 18th June. Top hats and tails, Pimm’s, champagne, the Royal processions and fashion competitions so fierce that the racing almost takes second stage in some respects.

Yes, the crowds are back! After the limited attendance of last year and the tumbleweed staging in 2020, the ultimate event of the “Season” is upon us.

royalascot_bestbets2022.jpg
It is literally packed each day with high quality listed flat racing action, not to mention some of the most valuable handicaps of the season. The prize money is also on the up: £8.65m in prize money is up for grabs which is a significant increase on 2019’s £7.33m.

It is also by far the best betting bonanza of the flat season, so we take the opportunity to size up some of the best Ascot each way bets of the meeting.

We have given one selection for each day to form an Ascot best bets Acca for the meeting! Best odds provided by our partner firms: Bet365, William Hill, Betfred, Bet Victor and Boylesports.

Tuesday 14th June

The Ascot Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

Those who follow the National Hunt game will be delighted to see Kingwell Hurdle winner Goshen (10/1 Betfred each way 5 places) and Triumph hurdle third Pied Piper (8/1 Betfred e/w 5 places) in the line-up for this stayers handicap on the opening day.

However, I quite like the look of Arcadian Sunrise (Bet365 9/1) who despite pulling hard in The Chester Cup last month, still ran on to grab a 2 length fourth. Sure to improve for this and won’t be inconvenienced by the greater test of stamina.

PICK: Arcadian Sunrise 9/1 with Bet365

Wednesday 15th June

The Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap)

The 1-mile handicap on the second day looks extremely competitive as usual. However, low down the handicap is Totally Charming who won a decent handicap at the recent Epsom Derby meeting and looks to have escaped a penalty for that with this meeting coming so soon.

Very well handicapped indeed. Best odds 14/1 with Betfred paying 5 places each way.

PICK: Totally Charming 14/1 with Betfred

Thursday 16th June

Buckingham Palace Stakes (Handicap)

William Haggas is having a fine season and he’s got a live chance in this handicap in the shape of Boosala who was desperately unlucky to get beaten last time out at Chester.

Things didn’t go his way in that race, but he did well to grab second in the dying strides, when he was well behind for most of the way.

Boosala therefore looks a decent each way proposition at 12/1 with Bet365 and William Hill.

PICK: Boosala 12/1 with Bet635, William Hill

Friday 17th June

The Commonwealth Cup

The 6-furlong Group 1 contest is market led by Perfect Power and El Caballo who are worthy favourites, however, the most intriguing entry is the United States based raider Slipstream.

He has some useful form having beaten Twilight Gleaming, runner up in last year’s Queen Mary Stakes, back in April. Connections clearly think he has a decent chance in this renewal of The Commonwealth Cup, and he has been well backed in recent days from 14s into 10s.

He is still available at 11/1 with Bet365.

PICK: Slipstream 11/1 with Bet365

Saturday 18th June

The Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)

This massively competitive sprint contest on the final day of the meeting is always an exciting betting heat and this year is no exception.

Current race favourite Fresh (8/1 Betfred paying 5 places) has been well backed in recent days.

However, outsiders have performed well in this race in the last ten years with 5 winners obliging at odds of 16/1 or more. Therefore, we have settled on the Mick Channon charge Chairmanoftheboard at 20/1 (Bet365) who stayed on impressively to take a very close third in a decent handicap at Newmarket back in April.

He’s reasonably well handicapped being raised only 1ib since that Newmarket third and meets the winner of that race, Blackrod, on 4ibs better terms.

PICK: Chairmanoftheboard 20/1 Bet365
