Cheltenham Festival Outsiders and long shots! When it comes to the Cheltenham Festival, most punters are looking for good bankers and horses with proven form at Cheltenham, with half decent chances at reasonable odds.
But of course, the starting prices of winners at The Cheltenham Festival can be huge especially in the handicaps. The races are very competitive and the fields are big. Not all horses can cope with the infamous undulations and punishing uphill finish, and if the going is totally different to what horses have been experiencing all season, then the formbook could be out of the window!
So we have checked through the markets and identified four outsiders at 20/1 or more who represent great value and with realistic chances of running into a place.

1. Good Risk At All, The Coral Cup, Wednesday 15th March
This Sam Thomas trained seven year old was actually entered last year for this race but failed to take part as a first reserve despite a non-runner being submitted albeit after the cut-off time.
This season he notched up a decent win at Sandown last October on a rating of 137. He travelled really well in that race and looked like he had more in the tank after the winning line.
Acts well on soft or heavy ground, which looks likely next week and has a high cruising speed which is necessary for this type of contest.
The horse is only declared for this race although NRNB is available, best priced 20/1 with bet365.
2. Funambule Sivola, The Champion Chase, Wednesday 15th March
Easy to forget that this horse finished second to Energumene in last year’s Champion Chase, albeit by eight lengths in a weakened contest.
Seems to be a “spring horse” as this Venetia Williams trained eight year old has been well beaten in all his starts this season, that is, until he ran in the Grade 2 Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase which he won, beating Elixir De Nutz and the useful Greaneteen by 4 lengths.
Now that he is in form and clearly performs better at this time of year, the 40/1 available with bet365 and William Hill is cracking each way value.
3. Before Midnight: The Grand Annual , Wednesday 15th March
We focus on another Sam Thomas trained horse in the shape of Before Midnight. His chances certainly got a boost from stable mate Our Power who took The Coral Trophy at Kempton the other week.
His only previous appearance at Cheltenham was a win back in October 2021 whereby he beat former Grand Annual winner Sky Pirate by six lengths.
Although his form figures this season do not make for an enjoyable read, this is statistically not a concern as nine of the previous thirteen winners of this race have failed to register a win that season before going on to win this.
His racing weight is also encouraging, carrying 11 stone 2ib. Seven of the last nine victors also carried 11 stone or more on their backs. 20/1 best price with Bet365, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.
4. Minella Indo: The Cheltenham Gold Cup, Friday 17th March
The best bet of The Cheltenham Gold Cup and possibly one of the best each way Cheltenham Festival bets of the week. Almost inexplicable that this previous winner and last year’s runner up is priced at 20/1 and difficult to see him at this price come Friday 17th March.
He is fairly unexposed as well, having just the one run under his belt, narrowly seeing off Stattler in a Grade 3 chase on New Years Day over 2 miles 6 furlongs.
He maybe a ten year old but there is little to suggest that he has lost any of his zest and the Cheltenham Gold Cup distance always brings out the best in him. 20/1 best with bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor and Boylesports all offering Non Runner No Bet.
