Can Spurs survive the Chelsea onslaught?

Chelsea

(Form check: WDWWW)

Antonio Conte’s magic touch seems to have spread to every player in the Chelsea squad, although a consistent starting 11 is leaving little look in for the likes of Willian, Oscar and John Terry. The revert to the 3-4-3 system allows the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro freedom whilst giving certain ‘mistake prone’ defenders a helping hand.

Victor Moses deserves a lot of credit for his contribution on the right hand side of midfield. The Nigerian has been a serial loanee during his time with the blues but now looks to have convinced the management he is worthy of a top 6 team starting position. This is backed up by impressive stats going forward and back, averaging three crosses and 4 recoveries per game.

Finding faults with this team is hard and from a neutrals perspective I’d rather sit back and enjoy the beautiful game being played at its best, of course with a cheeky winning bet in hand! With Diego Costa and Eden Hazard taking the value out of the first goal scorer market I’d be looking for a cheeky corner routine to reap rewards with a defender scoring.

Tottenham Hotspur

(Form check: WDDDW)

What a miserable week for Spurs fans as optimism of European exploits came crashing down to earth with an away loss to Monaco. It is odd how Tottenham have swung a pendulum between their Premier League and Champions League form but for those who read my previews you will know I’ve been unconvinced by Spurs for a while now and today is no different.

The loss of Toby Alderweireld was always going to hit  Spurs but other key players seem to be going missing lately: Eric Dier looks a shadow of his former self, Mousa Dembele’s lost that confidence to drive on through midfield and Christian Eriksen simply isn’t contributing in open play. Maybe another loss of Erik Lamela is proving a bigger than first thought…

Anyway it’s not all doom and gloom as Tottenham sit comfortably in their familiar 5th position trying to push into top 4 status. Harry Kane’s returned in rampant form and stability comes in Danny Rose (missing this week through suspension though!) and Kyle Walker who signal the opposing team danger when on the ball. Can they keep a clean sheet and will Harry Kane get the service? Questions without answers that leave me firmly in the blues camp.

SUMMING UP!

Like so many big games this season it’s hard to judge just how attacking the away team will be. Does it matter though with Chelsea being so clinical lately? Hopefully not, so I’m sticking with the blues, I love the midfield duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Kolo Kante propping up an attacking line which is simply purring!
