Gunners' Chelsea criticism unjust - and wrong

The bookies' tip of the season is about to come in (not that it was hard to predict), as it looks pretty certain that Chelsea will lift the Premier League title this year. And yet, after the weekend London derby against Arsenal which ended 0-0, Mourinho and Chelsea were accused of 'boring' football. While it's an accusation that could have been levelled at the previous Chelsea teams of the past, this time it seems Arsenal fans are talking the silly talk (as per usual).

First of all, the margin that Chelsea are clear at the top of the Premier League is 13 points, with only four games to go. Early on in the season, the Blues were playing some scintillating football with star-turns Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas leading to some talk of the team equalling Arsenal's Invincible team. Such chat was premature, but despite slip-ups - and there have been a few: eight draws and two defeats - they still remain a ridiculous 13 points ahead. The other teams who should have challenged for the title - Manchester City, Arsenal, and even a resurgent Van Gaal themed Manchester United - have just not been consistent enough.

Chelsea have conceded 27, just one more than the most miserly team in the division, Southampton (and kudos to Ronald Koeman for having me write that statement), while their 68 scored is only two less than Manchester City, their nearest challengers in the league.
So what is it exactly that has been boring about this Chelsea team? They have scored the second-most goals in the division, and have simply beat what has been put before them, amassing more points than anyone else. Maybe Arsenal fans don't think it's fun if a team don't lose enough before winning a title. But then, that would mean they'd forgotten about their team who didn't lose for the whole of the season before winning a title (although, the amount they talk about it, probably not). Perhaps it's this: being starved of success for so long has just made them a little bit bitter. The wait will probably go on as well for another Premier League title: Bet365 have them at 16/1 to win the League next year. Unfortunate.

Whatever the reason for the attack on Chelsea, the accusations levelled at Mourinho's team aren't fair this season. They have played beautifully at times, and Mourinho is far more aware of his remit to entertain the fans rather than steamroller competition by a series of one-nils as in seasons previous.

And if those loyal Gunners have any complaints next season if Chelsea do the same again, then maybe they should turn the criticism in on themselves and ask: if they're not that good, why aren't we winning the title?
