As it stands

The battle for 4th place is looking tougher than ever with Chelsea, United and City looking an almost certain top 3 this season. This means the new challengers Everton (and dare we say West Brom) join the usual suspects of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool in the chase for the final Champions League place. The games between the sides are where the real pressure may tell, and tonight we are lucky enough to have two of these to enjoy.

Everton Vs Arsenal

Arsenal take on Everton on at Goodison Park, where David Moyes’s team have not lost since Arsenal won 1-0 in March way back in March.

Arsenal looked poor against Aston Villa on Saturday, managing a draw in a meekly contested 0-0 at Villa Park. Everton also drew, 1-1 at home against Norwich City. The score line didn’t tell the story though as Everton led and looked comfortable for most of the match and were undone at the death by a 90th minute equaliser from a disputed set piece. Everton have began this season impressively and are sitting well in contention for fourth place spot with Marouane Fellaini in superb form having scored 6 goals already in the league this season. Fellaini returns from a one game suspension and with his threat from set pieces we are tipping he to score anytime at 11/4 with Coral. If you really fancy the big Belgian he is 16/1 with Paddy Power to score 2 or more.

It’s worth bearing in mind Arsenal are unbeaten in the last ten premiership games against Everton, having won eight of those ties. Given that and Everton’s impressive recent form we are going with a draw in this one, priced at 5/2 with Sky bet, we feel this would be a result both teams would probably settle for before the match. We also fancy goals, given that this should be hotly contested, and with defensive questions over both teams, and are going for 4 or more goals which is priced at 19/10 with Sportingbet.

Tottenham Vs Liverpool

Tottenham face Liverpool in a crucial game for the two managers, both under scrutiny for performances and results. AVB’s side have had an up and down season, starting poorly, then picking up in a spell that included a win at Old Trafford, before hitting poor form again. This included a recent run of three straight defeats in the league which was ended with Sundays 3-1 victory over West Ham. At the same stage last season Tottenham had 11 points more than they do now, and defeat tonight could leave immense pressure on AVB’s shoulders. Brendan Rodgers side lie 4 points adrift of Tottenham, so a win tonight would almost wipe that out. By putting faith in young players, Rodgers has done well to convince fans to buy into his longer term plan, however falling a long way short of 4th would still not be seen as acceptable.

Tottenham failed to beat West Brom, Wigan or Norwich at home this season and it seems the pressure of playing at home can get to the players. Liverpool have looked very assured defensively in recent weeks, conceding just 6 goals in their last 7 Premier League games (compared to Tottenham’s 16 conceded). With an ability to absorb pressure, and surprise with pacey counter attacks from the likes of Suarez and the increasingly exciting Raheem Sterling we fancy Liverpool to nick this one. Liverpool are 21/10 to win the match with Paddy Power, and we also like the look of the draw at half time, Liverpool at full time which is 7/1 with Bet Victor. A draw no bet from Ladbrokes offers Liverpool at 6/5, in this case the stake would be refunded if the game ends all square.

Raheem Sterling is 4/1 to score anytime with Blue Square and we fancy he could terrorise Spurs defence tonight, he looked excellent against Swansea and was unfortunate to rattle to crossbar too.
