Southampton v Chelsea
Wednesday 1st January 2014 15.00

Chelsea walk away from the Christmas period relatively unscathed. They faced a trip to the Emirates and hosted Liverpool but came out of it all unbeaten. Southampton’s fortunes have turned in the opposite direction – after a positive start to the season the Saints’ thin squad has been somewhat found out over the Christmas schedule. The home side are best priced at 3/1 with Sportingbet whilst Chelsea are best at Evens with Ladbrokes. A share of the spoils is best at 13/5 with Bet365.

We can’t see past Chelsea for this. Southampton’s record against teams above them is abysmal and Chelsea have been going from strength to strength recently. As such, a Chelsea win at Half Time/Full Time looks tempting at 11/5 with Paddypower.

Oscar worthy performance

Oscar returned to the starting line up for Chelsea against Liverpool on Sunday and he slotted in like he’d never left. He assisted Samuel Eto’o’s equaliser and was a part of everything good Chelsea put together. He could just grab a goal to kick start 2014 – and at 3/1 anytime with Skybet we’re tempted to put a few quid on.

Manchester United v Tottenham
Wednesday 1st January 2014 17.30

It doesn’t seem too long ago that we had the reverse of this fixture, but a lot has changed in the month or so since the 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane. Rooney and Van Persie both sit out this tie, whilst Spurs go striker crazy with Sherwood’s traditional 442. United are heavy favourites, being best priced at 8/11 with Skybet. The draw is best at 3/1 with BetVictor whilst Boylesports are best for a Spurs win all the way out at 9/2.

Danny’s going to score? Welbeck it!

With United’s strike force being down to the bare bones, it’s up to Danny Welbeck to carry the load for the home team. As much as he has been a popular punch line this year, he has scored more than all of the Chelsea strikers put together, and for him to add his 7th league goal this year is at 11/2 with Bet365.

However, we don’t think it will be plain sailing for Moyes’ men. Tim Sherwood’s Spurs side actually look like they’ve got a goal in them, netting three against Stoke in their last outing. Both Teams to Score and United to win is at a tempting 12/5. If this doesn’t tempt you, an over 2.5 goals is a bit safer at 4/6 with BetFred.
