Liverpool

Liverpool (Last 5 games W: 4 D: 1)

Now readers to my previews are going to see a regular pattern in the coming months…my utter admiration for Jurgen Klopp. As a lover of the game it has been so refreshing to see the enthusiasm he brings, stimulating this Liverpool team into a powerful beast who have been stalking their pray at will.

Top goal scorers in the league with 18, Liverpool have bullied opposition defences with their pace and power in attack, Sadio Mane obviously stands out after his £36 million summer transfer and William hill are offering 3/1 for him to score anytime in this match. Any of the forward line deserve acknowledgment but one player I’d like to highlight, due to the relevancy to this match is Adam Lallana. He really looks to have come of age this season, creating 3 assists and being the driving force from midfield.

Unfortunately for Liverpool though he’ll be missing with a groin injury, joined by fellow first teamers (doubtful) George Wignaldum (Hip), Dejan Lovren (Groin) and Nathanial Clyne (Knee). With the injury list filling up I can suddenly start to see the sun fading in the distance…

Liverpool have completed more passes than any other team this season but with four key players out injured you have to be worried as to whether they’ll find their rhythm in such a tense, high octane contest.

Manchester United

Manchester United (Last 5 games W: 2 D: 1 L:2)

Manchester United come into this game in somewhat ‘iffy’ form. A disastrous 3-1 defeat by Watford followed their loss at home to Manchester City, most recently a tame 1-1 draw with Stoke. Sandwiched in-between they did score four in the trouncing of Leciester City which goes to show on a going day they can be competitive.

A lot of the talk will be surrounding Wayne Rooney and whether he deserves his starting place but questions are arising around the rest of the team, for example why hasn’t Anthony Martial played in the last 3 games? Does Zlatan Ibrahimovic? affect the game enough for 90 minutes? Will someone step up to play alongside Pogba in the centre of the park? Tricky questions to answer but I’m unconvinced with the team and I predict a season of peaks and troughs for those poor united supporters.

There’s been plenty of goals flying in at both ends involving United so from a neutral perspective Monday night should be a mouth watering prospect. Only one injury update, that of Luke Shaw and if hes ‘not quite ready yet’, to quote Gareth Southgate. If he’s not up to shape Daley Blind will swap to left back and Chris Smalling will see his centre back partnership with Eric Bailly retained. Lingard, Mata, Pogba, Herrera and Ibrahimovic? are all set to start but your guess may be better than mine in the Rooney debate.

SUMMING UP!

I fancy goals. Plenty of them. It really is statement time for this Liverpool side and I’m banking on them tearing the poor Manchester United midfield apart even with the injuries list piling up. It’ll be a great opportunity for Emre Can to make his mark and with the front three of Coutinho, Firmino and Mane I can’t look past a Liverpool first goalscorer ending with a home win for reds.
