Asian Handicap Betting Guide

In traditional fixed odds betting for football there are three possible outcomes;

  • Team A win
  • Team B win
  • Draw

Asian Handicap Betting is different...here's how...

Single Asian Handicap

Asian Handicap betting removes the draw, so you will be presented with two possible options. In the example below Everton are favourites so the handicap is half a goal in favour of Swansea (against Everton):

  • Everton -0.5
  • Swansea +0.5

In this Single Asian Handicap example above, the team that scores the most goals after the handicap is applied will win the bet. In order to win your Asian Handicap bet on Everton (-0.5) Everton must win the match by 1 or more goals. If Everton don’t win by at least 1 goal or more, and therefore draw or lose the game then you would lose the Asian Handicap bet on Everton (-0.5).

Another example to hammer home the principle of how Asian Handicap betting works! In the below example Man City are favourites and have an Asian Handicap of minus one and half goals:

Asian_Handicap_Leicester_Manchester_City.jpg

  • Leicester City +1.5
  • Manchester City - 1.5

In the above example, in order to win a bet on Manchester City (-1.5), Manchester City must win the match by 2 or more goals. If Man City win by 1 goal, draw or lose the game the Asian Handicap bet on Man City (-1.5) will lose and the corresponding Asian Handicap bet on Leicester City (+1.5) will win.

Double Asian Handicaps

Premier League Game: Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspurs
Handicap Bet:  Tottenham +1.0, +1.5

Double Asian Handicaps involve two bet stakes. One bet stake on one handicap bet and a second stake of the same value on another handicap bet. In the above example handicap bet one of your bet stakes is put on Tottenham to win, draw or lose by less than 1 goal and another one of your bet stakes is put on Tottenham to win, draw or lose by less than 1.5 goals.

If the result was Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham, then one of your bet stake’s (Tottenham +1) would be refunded as Tottenham lost by exactly one goal and this cancels out the +1 handicap. The other bet stake (Tottenham +1.5) would win as Tottenham lost by less than 1.5 goals.

Double Handicaps can be a good way to ensure you have some form of insurance should you be nearly right!
